Music theory practice papers · ABRSM, AMEB & Trinity

Theory practice papers that never run out.

There are only so many past papers, and sitting the same one again mostly measures memory. MUSX builds a fresh paper every time from the syllabus for your grade, marks it the moment you finish, and tells you exactly which questions you lost marks on.

The case for randomised papers

Why settle for last year’s paper?

Past papers are a good idea with a supply problem. They run out, they leak, and the second sitting of one tells you almost nothing. A randomised paper fixes all three.

They do not run out

A MUSX paper is drawn fresh from the question pool for that grade every time, so a student can sit one every week of term and never repeat a paper.

The score means something

A second run at a paper you have already seen measures memory, not understanding. When the questions are new every time, a rising score means the student has learned the topic.

Nobody has already used it

A freshly built paper cannot have been seen before by the student, their classmate, or anyone online.

It is marked instantly

The paper comes back marked, with an exact percentage and every question shown.

Distinction80%85%90%85.1%Attempt 188.1%Attempt 290.2%Attempt 391.7%Attempt 492.7%Attempt 5+
Every MUSX theory attempt, plotted — quizzes and papers alike. The same student on the same topic climbs into the Distinction band by the third or fourth sitting, and because every sitting draws different questions, that climb is learning rather than recall. Measured from real attempts, not modelled.

What comes back

Clear results with an exact percentage.

A mark for every question

You receive your answer, the correct answer, and the topic each question belongs to. A teacher can see the pattern in a glance instead of reconstructing it from a total.

Marks broken down by section

Besides individual marks showing right and wrong, overall marks for every section are also given. If intervals are strong but scales need work, you can quickly see this and know what topic to target next.

A verifiable MUSX result

Full papers return an individually numbered MUSX certificate, verifiable online. The certificate is a verifiable record of a MUSX result.

Where to start

Practise for free. Sit a full paper when it counts.

The free quizzes and the full papers run the same engine and are marked the same way. The difference is scope and what you keep at the end.

Questions

The things teachers ask first.

Do you have ABRSM, AMEB or Trinity past papers?

No, and deliberately so. Past papers belong to the boards that wrote them. What MUSX offers instead is a paper built fresh against the same syllabus every time you sit one.

Our questions are written in the style of the board you follow and matched to the grade’s syllabus. They are not copies of board papers.

How is a paper put together?

Each grade has a pool of questions covering every topic on the syllabus, and a paper draws one hundred of them at random. The answer options are shuffled too, so two students sitting at the same desk get different papers — and the same student sitting again next week also gets a new paper.

Can my student sit the same grade more than once?

Yes, as often as you like, and that is the point. Each sitting is a different paper, so repeating a grade builds understanding instead of rehearsing one document. Students still mastering a topic gain about 9 percentage points on their next attempt — and students who started below 70% gain about 13.

Is it marked by a person?

Theory papers are marked automatically and instantly — the marking is objective, so there is nothing to wait for. You get an exact percentage, the mark for every individual question, and your marks broken down by section.

I teach several students. Can I set papers for all of them?

Yes — that is what the Class Pass is for. Two students sitting at the same desk get different papers. One code for all your students, whether you teach a class or one to one. Unlimited papers for the period: a week for A$49.95, or a month for A$99.95 if you want a month of revision covered. You get class results showing every student’s progress by topic, plus a ready-made term report you can copy into your own reporting.

A different paper every time, for less effort than photocopying.
